Iva Lynn Wilson is the founder and creative force behind GingerNoir: The Black Redhead Project, a NYC-based cultural platform launched in 2019 with the mission to uplift and celebrate the rare beauty of natural Black redheads.
With a background in education teaching English in New York City public schools, Iva founded GingerNoir in 2019, during a time when the presence of Black redheads on social media and in mainstream beauty spaces was nearly invisible. Through her research, she discovered how limited the representation truly was and became deeply interested in the MC1R gene, particularly how it appears in Black individuals, families, and across generations. This curiosity evolved into a passion for exploring identity, visibility, and the unique experiences of Black redheads within their communities and the world.
Since its founding, GingerNoir has grown into a vibrant community and multimedia project anchored in storytelling, education, and celebration.
Under her leadership, GingerNoir has produced community meetups, photo exhibitions, and collaborative projects now leading up to a documentary and ongoing digital content.
Join GingerNoir as we celebrate, document, and elevate the stories of Black redheads because our presence is powerful, our beauty is bold, and our time is now.
