Red hair and freckles, in our opinion, is great!

Did you know that less than 2 percent of the world’s population has red hair? Making it the rarest hair color in the world; additionally, making people of the African decent who have red hair a smaller percentage of that number.

I am working on a project to celebrate us, black redheads; to share our stories and experiences of growing up redhead and black. From our red locks to our freckles, many are intrigued by our looks. Questions are asked, some common and some cringe-worthy, but always about our hair and features.

Ginger Noir: The Black Redhead Project will document, uncover and celebrate the experiences of “black people” who were born with the MC1r gene that determines the red coloring of their hair.

Fundraising efforts will support creating this momentous project.
